Afghanistan Old City reconstruction project, Kabul.

The Turquoise Mountain Foundation (TMF) founded by rory Stewart has been involved for several years in a reconstruction and regeneration project in the Murad Khane district of the 'Old City' of Kabul. The project employs hundreds of construction workers and craftsmen. Only traditional materials such as mud, straw, rocks and timber are being used in the rebuilding and the centre piece of the project is a craft centre that will teach pottery, jewellery making, wood carving and stone masonry. Before the rebuilding could take place tons of accumulated rubbish that stood several meters deep had to be removed. One of the main goals of this effort is to involve as much of the local community as possible and to help encourage economic growth as well as improving education and training possibilities. Kabul, Afghanistan on the 30th of November 2008..
