Election day in Kabul.
Afghanistans historic Presidential elections saw both men and women heading to the polling stations. Many of the women were wearing traditional burka's. They had to lift the veils in order to have their identity checked before proceeding with their vote. Both men and women had their thumbnails painted to avoid repetitious voting. Reports circulated that the ink had not proved to be indelible and that voters were simply rubbing it off.
By mid afternoon 15 candidates had pulled out of the running amidst allegations of fraud.
