Afghanistan Emerald Mining

The emerald mines of the Panshir mountains are situated at nearly 3000 meters above seal level. The mountains are snow capped for much of the year. It is a 3 hour lung bursting climb up to the mines and all supplies have to be either man packed or transported by mules from the valley towns below. Khenj, Panshir Mountains, Afghanistan on the 19th of April 2009.
