Colombia has become synonymous with drug trafficking and violence. Each year thousands are killed, thousands more kidnapped and over 4 million have been displaced by the conflict. In late 2001, Jason began work on an independent project to document the conflict that has torn Colombia apart for decades. This culminated in the publication of Jason's first book: COLOMBIA: Between the Lines in May 2008.

On the 12th July 2006 two Israeli soldiers were captured by Hezbollah fighters in the area of Aitaa al-Chaab. Israel countered this with what it described as a 'proportionate response'. This response included the destruction by airstrikes and shelling of the airport, roads, bridges, factories and other infrastructure throughout the country but particularly south of the Litani River. More than one million people fled their homes; some moved to temporary refugee camps whilst those that could left the country.
