Thailand: Avian Flu
Veterinary workers wearing protective outfits examine poultry for Avian Flu in Chainat, Thailand on the 15th December 2006.
Whilst Avian Flu has been largely forgotten by the rest of the world in Thailand and Indonesia it is still an important issue. Thailand has strict control measures such as disinfection at all poultry farming sites, passports for fighting cocks and regular testing and have as a result got AI under control. Indonesia has little control and AI is frequent, programmes put in place by the Food and Agriculture Organisation is working on the problem. Surveillance and response units go out into the communities testing birds and destroying those that display symptoms.
